Visiting a nature preserve offers a fun way to learn about plants and animals. You'll find several near our active senior living apartments, each with something different to discover. Here are a few preserves you don't want to miss:
Kleb Woods Nature Preserve
Step back in time at Kleb Woods. It's where Elmer Kleb called home between 1907 and 1999. He spent years turning the farmland into a forested preserve that all could enjoy. Today, visitors can take farm tours that are offered daily by request. As you explore the farmhouse, barn, and one-bedroom guesthouse, the guide will share fascinating facts about the Kleb family. Kleb Woods is also a popular bird-watching spot, so don't forget your binoculars.
Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve
Better known as KMP, the Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve is where outdoor enthusiasts enjoy an array of recreational activities. Cast a line for tonight's dinner at the fishing pier, or paddle a canoe for a leisurely day on the water. You'll also find trails welcoming hikers and bikers, and they offer stunning views from beginning to end.
Edith Moore Nature Sanctuary
When Edith Moore and her husband Jesse purchased land 17 miles from downtown Houston, she loved the dogwood and holly that grew on the property. In 1975, Edith left over 17 acres of the land to the Houston Audubon to ensure the wildlife in her woods would be protected for future generations to enjoy. Today, the Edith Moore Nature Sanctuary is a popular among birders from near and far. Species include American kestrels, Carolina wrens, and willow flycatchers.
After enjoying time outdoors, sample some kebabs at a nearby restaurant. If you're not yet a resident of Augusta Woods, please contact us. We will offer a tour where you can see the amenities and floor plans our active adult apartments have to offer.
